If you are thinking of adding Enhanced CDs to your product line, here are some hints:
CD-ROM is a very different medium from CD-Audio and combining the two takes some skill. The Enhanced CDs we've seen from audio houses often have problems on the CD-ROM side.
Beware of "demoware" that seems to work fine on your machine—but doesn't quite make it out there in the real world. CD-ROMs have to work with many different operating systems and computer configurations.
Be sure your Enhanced CD is cross-platform to reach the entire market.
Be sure your authoring house knows both the Windows and Mac worlds well, so your users feel right at home.
Your disc should include a Windows installer program that fits Microsoft's standards.
The installer program should check that any required software is installed on the user's machine; if it is not, the installer should gracefully provide that software.
Speed counts—design elements that look cute the first time quickly lose their value if they slow down the disc.
Navigation must be simple, intuitive, and fool-proof.
A "flat" structure is preferable to multi-levels: show all the features up front on the main page.
Video compression is an art: make sure your programmer is properly equipped and experienced.
